Tatiana Maslany Of Orphan Black Wins Emmy Award

Tatiana Maslany of Orphan Black took home her first Emmy Award for lead actress in a drama series last night.

This was the second time that the Regina native has been nominated. She bested actresses in her category including those from hit shows like House of Cards, Empire, Homeland, How to Get Away with Murder and The Americans.

“The response after the first season was so much positivity in terms of representation and the way that young girls were seeing themselves portrayed on screen,” Maslany said to The Canadian Press. “And the LGBT community as well really reached out and supported us. So it’s been a really connecting thing in terms of the fans and has become something we feel responsible for, continuing to tell those stories. And it’s also a joy. There’s an immense joy in getting to tell womens’ stories that we don’t normally see.”

Maslany plays multiple roles in Orphan Black, and she’s also recently worked on other projects such as voice work on Robot Chicken and appearing in the flicks Two Lovers and a Bear as well as The Other Half.
