We should have seen this coming: as soon as The Simpsons got around to Adventure Time, it was bound to be over! Pendleton Ward’s bizarre creation has been Cartoon Network’s signature series since its debut in 2010. But everything ends, even Adventure Time.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Cartoon Network has revealed that Adventure Time will come to an end after the ninth season in 2018, which is currently in production. Considering that the eighth season hasn’t even premiered yet, there’s still a lot of Adventure Time left. There are also plans for more Adventure Time specials and miniseries, which means that fans will get to see more adventures of Finn the Human and Jake the Dog in the Land of Ooo.
“Adventure Time was a passion project for the people on the crew who poured their heart into the art and stories,” said Ward. “We tried to put into every episode something genuine and telling from our lives, and make a show that was personal to us, and that had jokes too! I’m really happy that it connected with an audience for so long. It’s a special thing, I think.”
