Hull City’s Ryan Mason suffered an horrific injury yesterday during his team’s game against Chelsea, fracturing his skull after a collision with defender Gary Cahill.
Mason was taken off the pitch on a stretcher while breathing using an oxygen mask, before being rushed to hospital immediately as the match continued. Hull have issued a statement regarding Mason’s condition, revealing that he is thankfully in a stable condition.
The statement reads:
“The Club can confirm that Ryan Mason sustained a skull fracture in our fixture at Chelsea this afternoon.
He was taken to St Mary’s Hospital where he has undergone surgery.
Ryan is in a stable condition and is expected to remain in hospital for the next few days.
Everyone at the Club would like to express their sincere thanks for the excellent and swift care given to Ryan by both the Accident and Emergency department and Neurosurgery Unit at St Mary’s Hospital.”
Cahill also received treatment following the incident, though was cleared to continue by Stamford Bridge’s medical staff. Following the game, he said: “We smashed heads, there was a massive impact and I know he went off. I wish him all the best and hope there is no serious injury for him.”

There is no word yet on when 25-year-old Mason is expected to recover, but Hull will give another update later today regarding his condition.
