Technology is constantly moving forward at an accelerated rate. But long before that technology reaches consumers, it’s being put to the test by rogue individuals/nations with their own agenda. This week, the Science Channel is delving into those stories with the series premiere of Outlaw Tech. Through a six episode first season, Outlaw Tech will examine how “rogue science has completely transformed the underworld and the unbelievable work that law enforcement officials are doing to try to stay one step ahead of their criminal counterparts,” according to Science Channel’s Marc Etkind.
In the first episode of the series, Outlaw Tech is taking a look at the massive counterfeit operation that North Korea uses to not only undermine the U.S. dollar, but also to fund its numerous attempts to make weapons. In CraveOnline’s exclusive clip from the first episode, we see how the U.S. is attempting to fight back and track the criminal activity on an international scale. But it is far from easy, even with the advanced surveillance equipment glimpsed here.

The premiere episode delves into the high-tech security measures in U.S. currency, and the advanced “super-note,” a $100 counterfeit bill, that nearly fooled everyone until FBI Operation Smoking Dragon cracked the case. We also meet a modern-day Jesse James who robbed banks of millions without setting foot into a branch by using only computers and cell phones as weapons. And lastly, we learn the chemistry behind the poisoning of a Russian dissident in London.
Outlaw Tech will debut tonight, April 26, on Science Channel at 10pm.
