Father John Misty Shares Cryptic Instagram Posts Hinting at New Album, Save Us Papa

These days, instead of press releases, musical artists use Instagram to announce their forthcoming projects. Whether it’s in a provocative selfie or with a sonic clip, musicians love to tease their fans via the social media platform. Father John Misty (whose entire Instagram presence consists of two — count ‘em, two — posts) is no exception, and he appears to be hinting that a new album drop is imminent. At least, that’s all we’ve been able to glean from this post:

Followers were falling all over the cryptic post, which featured a black-and-white photo of a performer ensconced in feathers, which very well could be album cover art.

“I don’t know what is happening but I like it,” one commented.

“I’m ready papa mistico,” another wrote.

“Daddy Misty’s backkkkkkkkk,” a third concluded.

The mysterious image follows the only other post on the artist formerly known as Josh Tillman’s account – a grainy video of a car paired with ambient sounds.

Misty fans have been exceedingly patient as they await new tunes from the oddball musician. His last release, God’s Favorite Customer, came out in 2018. Since then, his followers have only had a live album and a double single dubbed “To S.” and “To R,” which came out last year, to tide them over.

If you’re eager to hear new Misty music, keep an eye on his social media accounts. We can’t promise you’ll understand any future posts, but when the album does drop, we hope he’ll be a little more blatant about it.
