Bono Says He’s ‘Embarrassed’ By Most U2 Songs, Welcome to the Club, Buddy

Musical artists don’t always love their work in the same way fans do. If they’re evolving, they should be downright turned off by their old stuff. No wonder, then, that Bono has started talking some shit about U2, the rock band he’s fronted for a whopping 46 years!

In a recent interview on the Hollywood Reporter’s “Awards Chatter” podcast, the Irishman revealed that he isn’t as fond of the band’s oeuvre as the average musichead might think.

“I’ve been in the car when one of our songs has come on the radio and I’ve been the color of, as we say in Dublin, scarlet,” he said. “I’m just so embarrassed.”

Other than “Miss Sarajevo,” he said most of the group’s other tunes “make me cringe a little bit.”

The songs themselves aren’t the only thing he hates – the name has lost its luster, too.

“In our head, it was like the spy plane, U-boat. It was futuristic,” Bono explained. “It turned out to imply this kind of acquiescence — no, I don’t like that name. I still don’t really like the name.”

Yikes! Tell us how you really feel, man. Oh, wait, he did: “I do think U2 pushes out the boat on embarrassment quite a lot, and maybe that’s the place to be as an artist — you know, right at the edge of your level of embarrassment.”

We don’t know about that, but what we do know is we’ve been embarrassed of U2’s catalog for a while now. It seems like Bono has finally come around. Welcome to the club, buddy!
