The dust may have just settled from Godzilla vs. Kong, but Big G is already getting ready to rumble once again. This time, however, Godzilla and the titans are coming to the small screen. Apple TV+ has announced that it has given a series order to a new original live-action TV show set in Legendary’s MonsterVerse. Now that Godzilla is moving on to his latest squeeze, it begs the question of whether the King of the Monsters is just a giant slut. Kong could not be reached in the hollow earth for comment.
The new series, which doesn’t yet have a title, is being co-created by Chris Black (Desperate Housewives) and comic book artist Matt Fraction (Hawkeye). The previous movies have been released by Warner Bros, which makes it extra surprising that Legendary is working with Apple TV+ on this new series. Looks like Kong isn’t the only one who is getting cheated on.
Legendary’s MonsterVerse first started back in 2014 with Godzilla, a decent film. Then, we were treated to 2017’s excellent Kong: Skull Island and then 2019’s Godzilla: King of the Monsters, a deeply flawed film. The aforementioned Godzilla vs. Kong finally brought the two biggest titans together in an epic lovefest. Showdown – we meant showdown.
Apparently, this new Apple TV+ series will follow a new set of characters, taking place in the aftermath of 2014’s Godzilla. “Following the thunderous battle between Godzilla and the Titans that leveled San Francisco and the shocking new reality that monsters are real, the series explores one family’s journey to uncover its buried secrets and a legacy linking them to the secret organization known as Monarch.”
Based on this description, it seems as if there’s not much different happening here from the movies. While there is certainly some intrigue in terms of the Monarch aspect, the thing this series seems to forget is that we don’t watch these movies for the human characters. Hopefully, the big guy can finally be the main character in his own series.
