Vice President Kamala Harris recently sat for her first interview since becoming the Democratic Party’s 2024 nominee for President. During the event, she recalled the time President Joe Biden informed her of his decision not to run for re-election. She said that she was spending time with her nieces on a Sunday when she received the phone call.

Kamala Harris was accompanied by her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, as she decided to drop what she termed “a little too much information” about the phone call. During her much-awaited interview, the Vice President laid the groundwork for voters to see her and Walz’s plans for a joint administration and expressed her admiration and respect for President Joe Biden.

Kamala Harris tells CNN what Joe Biden said in a private call

On Thursday, August 29, Vice President Kamala Harris, accompanied by Tim Walz, sat down for her first interview since becoming a 2024 nominee for President of the United States. Speaking with CNN’s Dana Bash, she recalled her conversation with President Joe Biden when the latter decided to drop out of the presidential race.

President Joe Biden dropped out of the 2024 presidential race in July, ending his potential re-election. He then endorsed Kamala Harris to be the Democratic Party presidential nominee for the election.

During her CNN interview, Kamala Harris noted that it was a Sunday when President Joe Biden called to inform her of his decision to step out of the race. She recalled spending time with her nieces over a puzzle while attending to the phone call. Harris reminisced, “The phone rang and it was Joe Biden, and he told me what he had decided to do. And I asked him, ‘Are you sure?’ And he said, ‘Yes,'”

When Bash enquired if Harris asked Biden to endorse her or if the President did it on his own accord, Harris explained that he was “very clear” about supporting her. She then further said, “My first thought was not about me, to be honest with you. My first thought was about him.” Harris ended her statement by complimenting Joe Biden’s character and for “putting the American people first.”
