There’s a lot going on in Canadian music news today, including canceled shows following some controversy over Chris Brown performing here as well as concert dates that have been announced for R&B singer Janelle Monáe. Also, Bran Van 3000 singer Stephanie Moraille is running for office in Montreal.
Much controversy has surrounded the pending visit of Chris Brown, given his troubled past, and after much consideration, the Energy Rush festival in Toronto, Saint John, Halifax, and Winnipeg has been postponed until next year. Organizers cited that it wasn’t just Brown’s criminal background that factored into the decision but also his recent health issues. “After ongoing conversation and consultation with this year’s headline act Chris Brown, and in light of the performer’s recent personal and health-related issues, a decision has been made to cancel all four scheduled performances,” said Stephen Tobin, owner of Drop Entertainment Group, in a statement Monday (as reported by CBC News).
Meanwhile, R&B songstress Janelle Monáe will perform in Canada in promotion of her October release “The Electric Lady,” which comes out on September 10th. She will play Montreal’s Olympia Theatre on October 18th and the next night she’ll be at Kool Haus in Toronto.
Finally, according to a CTV News article, Stephanie Moraille of the group Bran Van 3000 is going after the federal NDP nomination in the Montreal riding of Bourassa. A singer as well as a lawyer, Moraille’s candidacy will be made public during a press conference, which is scheduled to take place this afternoon.
