Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has hit back at Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, saying that he is an “embarrassment” to his club following Mourinho’s claim that Wenger was a “specialist in failure”.
When asked of his opinion on the derogatory comments Mourinho made about him, Wenger replied: “I do not want to go into those silly, disrespectful remarks. I never spoke about him in my press conference and I will not start now. The only thing I know is it is more embarrassing for Chelsea than for me.
“I am embarrassed for him. Honestly. I am more disappointed for Chelsea than for me. I am not interested in the subject at all. If you are interested, and you have nothing better to do in your life, you are free to do it. I love football. What is interesting for me is what happens on the pitch.”
However, Mourinho has claimed that Wenger is the one who started the verbal war between them, saying: “I don’t accept that one is always ‘Monsieur polite’ and the other one is always the bad guy. I don’t accept, I’m sorry. The only thing I feel was that I was very quiet in my place and somebody spoke not in a nice way about us.”
Both Arsenal and Chelsea played their fifth round FA Cup ties this past weekend, with Arsenal beating Liverpool 2-1 and Chelsea losing to Manchester City 2-0.
