Drake’s annual OVO Festival is getting some support from the government – $300,000 in support – and some critics aren’t keen on the grant money.
The money is being given by the Ontario’s Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport. However many people are saying that it’s a lot of money to give to the event.
According to a Rolling Stone article, each year, a government initiative called Celebrate Ontario helps fund “new and existing Ontario festivals and events enhance their programs,” and OVO is just one of about 10 pages’ worth of events the program is awarding money. Other music fests receiving government money this year include Field Trip (a Toronto fest that this year features Broken Social Scene, Interpol, Fucked Up and other indie-minded bands), the TD Toronto Jazz Festival, and Rock the Park: Gone Country (which spotlights Darius Rucker this year and received $300,000).
Drake’s OVO fest takes place on August 3rd and 4th.
