As Weekend 2 of Coachella kicks off today, some sobering news may give partiers pause in their plans for indulgence in the desert: a woman has reportedly died after collapsing at the Coachella Music Festival’s first weekend last week.
The Hollywood Reporter reports that Kimchi Truong, 24, from Oakland, CA died Thursday afternoon (April 18), after collapsing on the festival grounds on April 12. She was taken to JFK Memorial Hospital in Indio at the urging of on-site medical staff, and later transferred to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs.
Goldenvoice, the festival promoter, is calling Truong’s death an “apparent drug overdose,” though the local sheriff-coroner’s office has yet to make an official announcement.
“We’re testing to find out whether drugs or alcohol are involved in the death,” said Sgt. Curt James of the Riverside County sheriff-coroner’s office. He noted that it could take up to six weeks to know if drugs and/or alcohol contributed.
“We are saddened to learn the individual has died,” Goldenvoice said in a statement. “We believe this to be an unfortunate but isolated incident. Our thoughts and condolences are with the family and friends.”
