The Summer heat is coming, and chances are you’ll be spending quite a few evenings in your air conditioned gaming room enjoying video games. You’ve got the TV, the AC, and the electricity, all you need now are the games. So what are you gong to play?
We’re in luck this year. June 2014 has some quality releases to enjoy. Starting this week one of the biggest PC games hits the market, and later in the month the PS3 and Xbox 360’s racing swan song bids adieu with some beautiful cars. There are also a couple of big new IPs that could prompt new franchises in this new generation of gaming.
Check out the gallery below to have a look at what’s coming out this month:
June 2014 Video Game Release Calendar
June 3rd - WildStar
This year's biggest MMORPG is launching right at the beginning of this month. WildStar is a game that has been in development for almost a decade, and has been in beta for more than a year. MMORPG fans have been waiting for its arrival for a long time, and it's finally here.
Although it's PC only, if you're at all interested in playing online games this is a title that should at least earn your consideration. With the Summer game drought looming, there's no better way to soak up the time than with an MMO. Bring yourself, some friends, and enjoy the world of Nexus.
Platform(s): PC
June 3rd - Murdered: Soul Suspect
Square Enix is ready to release its new IP for 2014. Titled Murdered: Soul Suspect , this action-adventure game places you in the role of a ghost stuck in pergatory. That ghost is Ronan O'Connor, a detective that won't be able to rest in peace until he finds out exactly how his life was taken from him. The road to determining that won't be easy and will require puzzle solving and even a bit of stealth to avoid the demonic creatures who inhabit the fourth dimension.
Murdered: Soul Suspect looks original and interesting. If it manages to perform we're sure to see future games in the franchise.
Platform(s): PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One
June 6th - Tomodachi Life
First of all, if you haven't seen the Tomodachi Life announcement trailer , you really should do so. It's absolutely hilarious and can give you a better idea of what to expect more than any text will.
That said, in a nutshell Tomodachi Life is a life simulation game where you create Miis, who can and probably should represent the people you know in real life, and watch them interact with each other in bizarre ways. You'll see your parents singing metal songs on stage, friends performing rap battles, and more. It's absolutely ridiculous, and for that reason it's earned our attention. I mean, who doesn't like a good laugh?
Platform(s) : 3DS
June 17th - EA Sports UFC
It's been a couple of years since we've seen a UFC video game, but this one is making up for time lost with unparalelled realism. Developed solely for next-gen consoles, EA Sports UFC is by far and away the greatest representation of the sport in a video game ever. The fighters look just like their real world counterparts, their animations are eerily realistic, and the gameplay is deep and challenging.
If you're a fan of MMA, you're really going to want to check this game out.
Platform(s): PS4, Xbox One
June 24th - Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark
Yes, this is a video game adaptation of a film (Transformers: Age of Extinction ), but it looks really good. Its predecessor, Transformers: Fall of Cybertron , is arguably the best of its kind in recent years. This sequel supposedly irons out some issues making it an alluring option for Transformer fans. Best of all, it's on just about every platform so if you're interested in playing you won't be out of luck.
Platform(s): 3DS, PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Wii U
June 25th - Valiant Hearts: The Great War
There are a few indie titles coming out this month, but Valiant Hearts: The Great War looks to be the best of the bunch. Developed by Ubisoft Montpellier, it's a puzzle adventure inspired by the writings of soldiers during World War 1. The presentation has a very unique artistic look to it that should make fans of games like Rayman Legends and Child of Light happy.
Platform(s): PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One
June 27th - Grid Autosport
Need a racing game? Grid Autosport is a sequel to Grid 2 , one of the best racers of 2013. Similarly, it's a game that battles for authenticity. With options ranging across the spectrum from a BMW 320 to the powerful Pagani Zonda R, there are a lot of cars to drive, and a lot of corners to apex perfectly.
It's also the last big racing game on last-generation platforms. Some are already calling it the swan song for generation seven racers.
Platform(s): PC, PS3, Xbox 360
