Mogwai are the latest band to slam Metallica ahead of their Glastonbury 2014 headline slot.
Speaking to Gigwise, the Scottish band discussed whether Metallica’s headline set on the Pyramid Stage would bother them, as they will be headlining the Park Stage at the same time. Mogwai claimed they didn’t see Metallica as a threat to their own performance, due to them being “shite”.
Speaking of Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich, Mogwai’s Barry Burns said: “I can’t wait to hear that guy play the drums again – unbelievably bad. He’s terrible.”
Singer Stuart Braitwaite said that he doesn’t see “what all the fuss is about” as they’re “a pretty big rock band and it’s a pretty big rock festival”, adding: “It would be good if they could go back in time to 1989. Metallica at Glastonbury in 1989.”
The most damning comment regarding the headliners came from Martin Bulloch, who succinctly said that “they’re shite.”
Mogwai’s criticism of Metallica comes after Arctic Monkeys frontman Alex Turner claimed that the band shouldn’t be headlining the festival at all. Fortunately, Metallica do have some support in the form of Mick Jagger, who said that the metal band will be “great” at the festival.
