Nine’s Karl Stefanovic has never been one to shun a potential opportunity for public humiliation (need we remind you of The Logies?) and it seems he has no plans to change his spots. Putting his rhythm deficiency up front for all to see on 2Day FM breakfast, the “Today” host muddled his way through Iggy Azalea’s smash hit, Fancy.
In an new segment dubbed Karleoke (get it?) hosts Jules, Merrick and Sophie encouraged the cringe-inducing performance bravely undertaken by Stefanovic, who was armed with nothing but a beat, all of the lyrics and his wits.
It didn’t take long for the Gold Logie winning presenter to be outpaced by the Mullumbimby-born rapper, but what he lacked in speed he made up for in range, reaching an impressive octave with his falsetto when it came to the Charli XCX chorus.
“That gave me goose bumps in the worst way,” joked host Sophie Monk at the end of the rendition. We’d tend to agree. Azalea’s hit Fancy is currently sitting atop the Billboard charts while her collaboration with pocket-size powerhouse Ariana Grande, Problem, is second, a feat achieved only once previously in 1964 by The Beatles. Sadly we don’t think Karl’s version will make the cut.
