A man who suffered a heart attack at British Summer Time festival in Hyde Park, London, has spoken of the stranger who performed CPR on him for 10 minutes, effectively saving his life.
46-year-old Andrew Plank collapsed during The Pogues’ set on Saturday (July 5th), but was resuscitated by a fellow audience member who also alerted the paramedics.

Speaking to the Irish Post, Plank’s nephew-in-law Lloyd Smith said: “From what we’ve been told by the hospital, there was a stranger in the crowd who performed CPR for 10 minutes and it’s down to the fact that he performed CPR that we’ve still got my wife’s uncle. His heart stopped for those 10 minutes but thanks to this bloke the paramedics were able to revive him.
“When you hear the day to day horror stories in the news, it’s just wonderful to know that there are people out there who care about their fellow human beings and we’d just like to thank them and let them know that they are a special person and appreciated by our whole family.”
The British Summer Time festival’s organisers have come under scrutiny for its handling of The Libertines’ performance, which saw many being injured as the stage struggled to contain the huge crowd. 10 of those in attendance were rushed to hospital while many more suffered injuries, with reports from audience members stating that many of their attendees had collapsed and that they witnessed security guards having to help people out of the crowd.
