The highly-anticipated action-RPG sequel The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has been delayed by a whopping 12 weeks, with its new release date being pegged for May 19th, 2015.
Developer CD Projekt Red made the announcement today in a press release, saying: “When we release the most important game in our studio’s history, we must be absolutely sure that we did everything we could to limit any bugs to a level that will allow you to enjoy the game thoroughly. The game was scheduled to be released in February, though the developer needs extra time to add polish to the game.”

This will come as disappointing news for fans of the series, with the game having already previously been delayed and pushed from 2014 to 2015. Following the first delay, Projekt Red penned an open letter to fans, saying: “We recently reexamined what we had achieved thus far and faced a choice about the game’s final release date.
“The decision we made was difficult, thoroughly considered, and ultimately clear and obvious. We could have released the game towards the end of this year as we had initially planned. Yet we concluded that a few additional months will let us achieve the quality that will satisfy us, the quality gamers expect from us.”
Though it’s always a little frustrating when a game gets delayed, even more so in this case considering the length of the delay, it’s heartening to hear that Projekt Red are taking as much time as possible with The Witcher 3 to make it into a great game, rather than rush it out the door to appease consumers. Hopefully it’s well worth the wait.
