Rapper Joey Bada$$ has been charged with assault in Australia after he allegedly hit a security guard and broke his nose before taking the stage at the Byron Bay leg of the Falls Festival.
Reports the ABC, the 19-year-old rapper was readying to take the stage for his set on the festival’s final night on Friday, when he was stopped by a security guard asking for his credentials.
Joey Bada$$ allegedly punched the security guard in the face before going on stage to perform and was arrested by police after his set. He reportedly spent the night in custody at Byron Bay police station.
The rapper, whose real name is Jo-Vaughn Virginie Scott, appeared in Lismore Local Court on Saturday and was then granted bail to appear at Byron Bay Local Court on March 19th. He is due to perform two sideshows this week in Sydney and Melbourne alongside Run The Jewels.
The 20-year-old security guard told police he thought Joey Bada$$ was an unauthorised person. He was treated by paramedics at the festival for a broken nose and other facial injuries and was then taken to hospital.
Joey Bada$$ is in Australia for a festival tour which included stops at all three Falls Festival legs, Sydney’s Field Day festival and Western Australia’s Southbound Festival.
