The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) revealed the full list of nominees for the Junos Tuesday in Toronto.
Topping the list of Juno nods was reggae band Magic! with five, followed by crooner Leonard Cohen and Kiesza with four noms each. Magic! and Kiesza will both take to the stage at the event. Bands like Arcade Fire, Drake, Hedley (who will perform at this year’s Junos), and Nickelback are all up for the Juno Fan Choice Award, Nickelback, Hedley and Cohen are all up for Album of the Year, and Cohen is also up for Artist of the Year alongside Bryan Adams, deadmau5, Sarah McLachlan, and The Weeknd.
Newcomes Glenn Morrison, Jess Moskaluke, Kiesza, Mac DeMarco, and Shawn Mendes are all nominated for the Juno Award for Breakthrough Artist of the Year.
The Junos will be handed out at a gala event in Hamilton on March 15th, the first time in 14 years that the city has played host to the awards. “They are no strangers to Juno Award celebrations,” said Allan Reid, president and CEO of CARAS, in reference to Hamilton being the host city (CBC News). “Music is an integral part of Canada’s cultural fabric,” he said. “It binds us together.”
