Ultra Miami Recap: Rain Dampens the Dance Party on Day 1

The early afternoon for the first day of Ultra Music Festival was beautiful, in the lower 80s and looking like a great start to the weekend-long festival. However, afternoon rainshowers caused delays and a number of set cancellations, bringing a damper on the day for many. But in undaunted festival-philosophy form, Crave knows the experience is what you make of it – and we didn’t fly almost 3,000 miles to let a little skyjuice ruin our night!

The downpours began to hit Bayfront Park in Miami around 6pm, causing immediate delays. Soon, stages began shutting down, and grumbling uncertainty rippled through the packed party crowds. UMF is hardly a rookie in the inclement-weather game, and toughed it out to remain open for the duration of the night, albeit with a streamlined run of performances.

UMF: Tiesto & Martin Garrix on Their New 7Up Collaboration

The Ultra Radio Stage, Live Stage and Resistance Stages all shut down for a portion of the evening, causing some big names to miss their sets at the premiere electronic music festival. Some of these cancellations included sets from Odesza, Don Diablo, Chromeo, and more.  Luckily enough for fans, the rain tapered off towards the end of the evening, which let the Live Stage re-open for the last set of the evening by Royksopp.

The Main Stage, Ultra Worldwide (Ultra Korea), and Megastructure continued throughout the rest of the evening at the festival and included sets from Afrojack, Alesso, Avicii, Tiesto, Zeds Dead, Carl Cox, GTA, Andy C, Excision and many more.  Our favorite sets of the evening came from Andy C, who played a legendary Drum N Bass set on the Worldwide stage, and Avicii who played out some new music for fans on the main stage.

UMF: Tommie Sunshine on Riot House, Ultra and EDM Evolution
