When no roads exist to your destination, you cut a path of your own. That DIY work ethic is something Las Vegas hard alternative rockers Otherwise are quite familiar with – which is why the band, with little time to hit the studio between West-Coast tour stops, set up and rocked out in my living room one gorgeously sunny day in Oceanside, CA.
The intensely driven quintet—Adrian Patrick [vocals], Ryan Patrick [guitar/vocals], Corky Gainsford [drums/vocals], Tony Carboney [bass] and Andrew Pugh [guitar/vocals]— display a tenacity for their ongoing journey on their second full-length album, Peace At All Costs (pick it up on iTunes). It’s the follow-up to the band’s debut True Love Never Dies, driven by the success of hits “Soldiers,” “I Don’t Apologize (1000 Pictures),” and “Die For You.”
Secret Jams: The 10 Best Hidden Tracks in Rock
The guys have toured alongside heavy hitters such as Stone Sour, Papa Roach and Three Days Grace, and made a notable presence at festivals including Rock On The Range, Aftershock, Rocklahoma, Carolina Rebellion, and Welcome To Rockville. However, Peace At All Costs raises the stakes across the board for the Vegas outfit, who teamed up with iconic producer David Bottrill [Tool, Muse, Staind, Stone Sour] in Vegas View Studios, to push themselves into new territory with Bottrill’s wisdom and encouragement.
“He really did contribute to the vibe of the album,” Adrian explains. “Whether it was changing the tempo from section to section or altering the key, David brought these new ideas to the fold, and you can hear them in each and every song. From top to bottom, the album has a lot of personality because of his contributions.”
