Gorillaz Will Record a New Album in September

Gorillaz are set to record a brand new album in September, according to the cartoon band’s co-creator Damon Albarn.

Speaking to ABC, Albarn said: “I’m starting recording in September for a new Gorillaz record.” The last release from the band, which was created alongside artist Jamie Hewlett, was 2012’s ‘Do Ya Thang,’ a collaboration between Albarn, Andre 3000 and LCD Soundsystem’s James Murphy.

While Albarn and Hewlett have had a tumultuous relationship, the pair have always dismissed rumours that we wouldn’t see any more releases from Gorillaz. However, this is the first time any kind of date has been given in regards to a potential new LP from the pair, though Albarn stated that this wasn’t a result of him not having any ideas for the project, but rather him not having enough time to put those plans into fruition.

“I’ve just been really, really busy so I haven’t had a chance,” he said, adding: “I’d love to just get back in to that routine of being at home and coming to the studio five days a week.” Albarn is currently touring with Blur following the release of their comeback album The Magic Whip, and he most recently made headlines after being dragged off stage by security after playing a five-hour set with side-project Africa Express at Roskilde festival in Denmark.
