In the midst of a North American tour in support of his new and tremendously good Momentary Masters LP, Strokes guitarist Albert Hammond Jr. has polished his frontman charisma to the point of full conviction. The rocker led his five-piece through an astoundingly sharp set of pop-rock gems at the Austin City Limits festival on Friday, and immediately afterward met up with us backstage for some fascinating updates on both of his bands. He would later close out the festival on guitar duty for The Strokes, who headlined ACL on Sunday and provided the perfect rock n’ roll sendoff.
Watch our interview with Hammond below, where we discuss the interpretive nature of lyrics, a new album from The Strokes, his own plans to re-imagine a few Sinatra songs, and more.
Keep up with Albert Hammond Jr. at his official site, and pick up Momentary Masters – it’s a damn good listen.
