Footage has emerged of a downright bonkers moment when a bloke supposedly named Ben hitched a ride on the back of a taxi in the Sydney suburb of Redfern and lived to tell the tale.
Uploaded to social media by tumblr user James Carthew with the title “BEN. HUMAN MUD FLAP. REDFERN. SYDNEY 25.10.15″, the clip (below) shows the man holding onto the rear bumper of a cab and being dragged about 150 metres through an intersection at Regent Street.
A female onlooker can be heard saying, “Ben, get up,” before the traffic lights turn green and the taxi turns the corner. Luckily, few cars are around, and the man appears to escape unharmed, raising his fists into the air as his friends cheer him on.
As ABC reports, Chief Inspector Phil Brooks from the Traffic and Highway Patrol Command says the man’s actions were a serious risk to other road users.
“This young man is skylarking,” he says. “This is dangerous and reckless behaviour, we’re certainly encouraging anyone that knows this young man, or even his family, to please bring him into a police station.”
“A tragic outcome could have occurred here. This young man’s dangerous practices will be investigated by the police and this sort of behaviour attracts significant fines and penalties.”
Catch the video in full below, and maybe think twice before trying to be a “human mud flap”.
