Watch The First Trailer For AMC’s Preacher

After over a decade in Hollywood development hell, the live-action adaptation of Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon’s Vertigo comic book series Preacher is finally coming to AMC. Last night, during The Walking Dead, AMC debuted the first full-length trailer for Preacher.

Preacher fans may note that the trailer deliberately downplays the actual premise of the comic book series. But it is a fitting introduction to Jesse Custer (Dominic Cooper), a small town preacher in Texas who has the capacity for violence when the occasion calls for it. And as illustrated in the trailer, Jesse understands the repercussions of that violence…and he acts on it regardless of consequences to himself.

The trailer only offers a few tantalizing glimpses of Preacher’s more fantastical characters, including the vampire, Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun) as he burns his arm in the sun. We also see Jesse’s ex-girlfriend and current assassin, Tulip, as played by former Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. villainess Ruth Negga,

Preacher is the story of Jesse’s literal search for God, after he is forcibly merged with the offspring of a demon and an angel that gives him the power to command almost any living being in creation. Cassidy and Tulip join Jesse on the ultimate road trip, as his newfound power attracts the wrong kind of attention.

Seth Rogen and his production partner Evan Goldberg were instrumental in getting Preacher on AMC, and they directed the pilot episode from a script by showrunner (and Breaking Bad veteran), Sam Catlin.

The ten episode first season of Preacher will premiere on AMC in mid-2016.
