Soundwave Festival has sadly come to an end today, with the festival’s founder and head honcho AJ Maddah announcing the 2016 festival has been officially cancelled.
“I am devastated to have to announce the cancellation of Soundwave 16 due to poor ticket sales. I am very sorry. I tried my best,” Maddah tweeted today.
“Thank you to all the fans, bands and people who supported the event for the last 12 years. i wish we could have ended it on a better note.”
It seems fans will have to bank on memories from Soundwave 2015 for a while, with Maddah having said this week that the event is “definitely” not returning in 2017 either.
Earlier this week Bring Me The Horizon cast doubt over the 2016 event, telling fans they weren’t 100% locked in for the festival, despite being announced on the Soundwave lineup earlier this year.
In response to that claim, AJ Maddah told followers the festival won’t run in 2017, expressing his frustration over the setbacks. “It’s a lot of hard work, stress & risk in return for which we get hate & stupidity #OverIt,” Maddah said. He also suggested he will also cease operating his Soundwave Touring company.
Maddah also suggested the fate of the 2016 festival was in the hands of ticketing company Eventopia/Ticketek, claims they have refuted, before assuring ticket-holders and The Soundwave Society (TSS) members that should he go ahead with a cancellation, they will be given a refund.
Expanding on that today, Maddah said that refunds will be available “from point of purchase” and urged ticket holders to “be patient an wait [for] contact from Eventopia.”
Soundwave 2016 was scheduled to take place in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne in January, featuring acts like Disturbed, Bring Me The Horizon, The Prodigy, Deftones, Killswitch Engage, NOFX, Bullet For My Valentine, Public Enemy and Refused.
