EA’s Star Wars Battlefront has already surpassed the lifetime physical retail sales of both the original Battlefront game and its sequel, with it now being on course to sell more than both those release combined.
The surprising sales data was posted by the NPD Group, revealing how the 2015 game has already managed to shift more physical copies in its three months on sale than its 2004 and 2005 predecessors. In January, it was estimated that the game had sold over 13 million copies since its release in November 2015, with EA generating approximately $660 million in revenue and it beating their sales forecast for their game.

Though Star Wars Battlefront was met with a mild critical reception upon release, with many criticizing its lack of content and balancing issues, the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens last year inevitably drove more sales, along with the free Battle of Jakku DLC that was released in order to tie in with the blockbuster film.
While many fans of the old Battlefront games were disappointed with DICE’s take on the franchise, EA will undoubtedly be happy with these sales.
