Do you think you know the history of Theodore Roosevelt and his Rough Riders? Then think again!
Former Suicide Squad writer Adam Glass and veteran comic book artist Pat Oliffe (Untold Tales of Spider-Man) have teamed up for Rough Riders, the newest title from AfterShock Comics! Earlier this month, the first issue of Rough Riders introduced readers to a young Theodore Roosevelt in 1898 as he was recruited by the titans of industry to investigate an apparent alien incursion in Cuba that destroyed the USS Maine.
To deal with this otherworldly threat, Roosevelt is putting together a team of American legends to be his new Rough Riders. His first recruit was Jack Johnson, the son of ex-slaves who has made a name for himself as a boxer. Now, in CraveOnline’s exclusive preview for Rough Riders # 2, Roosevelt and Johnson put escape artist Harry Houdini through a deadly test to see if he’s worthy of joining the team.
Here’s AfterShock Comics’ solicitation text for Rough Riders # 2 :
“The year is 1898 and Teddy Roosevelt has put together an incongruous band of dissidents to battle a mysterious force in Cuba. Under the guise of the Spanish American War, Teddy and his “Rough Riders” will try to discover who is truly behind the sinking of the USS MAINE. But as they touch down on Cuban soil, they’ll soon discover that the biggest battle, they must fight is the one amongst each other.”
Rough Riders # 2 will be released on Wednesday, May 4.
