As I’m sure I’ve mentioned before, when I was in fifth grade I got a letter sent home to my parents informing them that I was the best poet in class. Was I proud? Yes. Did gals come rushing to me? No. But the power of the written word does exist, and the woman in this story is more proof of that.
A Twitter user had to recently write a poem to get a grade in her English class. The poems would then be submitted to the Appelley Publishing 2017 Rising Stars Collection, with a chance of getting published. Well guess what this student decided to write about? Popeyes $5 Bonafide Big Box. And now she says it has actually been chosen to be published.
in my english class we had to do a poem for a writing contest our teacher entered us in for a grade, right? and she said it could be about whatever so i made mine about the $5 box at popeye’s cause i just wanted the points… why i get a letter saying my poem getting published pic.twitter.com/U3SqRsnfjW

That’s right, kids, someone out actually loved the poem enough to suggest it get published.

Here’s the poem:
“Approaching I see,
bright orange and white
coming fast in front of me.
The aroma so thick,
filling my nostrils, oh.
I can just taste the
drumstick.
As I follow the yellow brick road
that is the drive-thru,
I realize.
Popeyes, what I love so dearly,
discontinued the $5 box.
Now, I am lost.”
Anyone else crying? The student received this note from the publisher:
“We simply can’t publish every student who writes to us, but in your case, we have decided that we would like to include your poem, ‘Popeyes’ in the Appelley Publishing 2017 Rising Stars Collection.”
And you just know Twitter was loving this:
