Screencap: via Craigslist
There are folks who still hop on Craigslist to find a couch or a roomie that eventually turns into a Single White Female situation, but believe it or not there are folks who hop on the site to find a pal to flop around naked with. Well that is no more as Craigslist has officially shutdown their “personals” section.
According to NPR, Craigslist took down the section after Congress recently passed the Fight Online Sex Trafficking Act, which is all about cracking down on sex trafficking of children. Of course everyone can be on board with cracking down on that, and while the decision was a landslide, some sex workers aren’t all about it as they believe this will make people who work in the sex industry “less safe, pushing them onto the street or deeper into the dark Web.”

Here’s what the site had to say about this new law passed:
“To subject websites to criminal and civil liability when third parties (users) misuse online personals unlawfully. Any tool or service can be misused. We can’t take such risk without jeopardizing all our other services, so we are regretfully taking craigslist personals offline. Hopefully we can bring them back some day.
To the millions of spouses, partners and couples who met through craigslist, we wish you every happiness!”
As some of you may recall, up until 2009 Craigslists called this section “erotic services,” and it was all about advertising sex and mediocre massages.
Regardless, shutting this page down will be a positive in the long run. And if you were going to this poorly designed site looking for sex then it’s probably best you introduce yourself to Tinder. You know, the polished Craiglist.
