YouTuber Creates World’s First Real-Life Retractable Lightsaber (Let the Dick Jokes Begin)

Star Wars fans, rejoice! You are one step closer to holding your very own real-life lightsaber in your hands. Alex Burkan, a Russian YouTuber, was recently recognized by the Guinness World Records as creating the world’s first hand-held retractable lightsaber.

According to Guinness World Records, “The lightsaber produces a plasma blade measuring over 1 m (3.28 ft) in length. Reaching temperatures over 2,800°C (5,072°F), the blade has the ability to cut through steel.”

In a 7-minute video, Burkan showed wannabe Jedi agents how he built the device.

“Every single step during [the] development and building process was a challenge,” he told Guinness World Records. “For many years I have collected ideas and spare parts for my lightsaber and power equipment on the internet markets and [from] scrap yards.”

The key component was an electrolyser, which splits water into hydrogen and oxygen gases. After hundreds of trials, the weapon came to fruition. While the design isn’t flawless – and only works for 30 seconds on full power – Burkan is already toiling away on improvements.

Want a lightsaber of your very own? Burkan is offering a PDF step-by-step DIY guide for his Channel Members.

We’ll just sit back and wait until these lightsabers are mass-produced, thank you very much. In the meantime, we’ll be over here thinking of all the dick jokes inspired by this fiery and very phallic innovation.
