Boss Asks Employees to Sign Pledge Not to Whine (Good Luck With That)

When you start a new job, it’s fair to say there are high expectations on both sides. You want to be paid fairly, treated well, and possibly have room to advance at your new workplace. Your boss wants you to follow procedure, work hard, and…stop whining?

Yes, an anal yet anonymous employer went viral on Reddit for expecting a whine-free environment among many other things, which they laid out in a SWEAT pledge. That acronym, in case you were wondering, stands for “Skill and Work Ethic Aren’t Taboo.”

A Redditor named Cas Baxter posted the demanding document after his wife was asked to sign it at her new job. Some of the extreme tenets the company expected workers to agree to were:

“I believe the best way to distinguish myself at work is to show up early, stay late, and cheerfully volunteer for every crappy task there is.”

“I believe that the most annoying sounds in the world are whining and complaining. I will never make them. If I am unhappy at work, I will either find a new job or find a way to be happy.”

“I do not follow my passion. I bring it with me. I believe that any job can be done with passion and enthusiasm.”

“Some choose to be lazy. Some choose to sleep in. I choose to work my butt off.”

In total, there were 13 such statements. Based on the Reddit comments alone, it’s amazing that this boss has anyone willing to work for them.

“I love and enjoy my job. They pull some shit like this, that day would be my last day,” one commenter claimed.

“Is there nothing illegal about this?? This seems actually fucking insane,” another observed.

“I’ve been at my job for 17 years. Love it. If they tried to have me sign this, I would laugh and say no. And if they were not joking, I would quit,” a third opined.

It would seem the SWEAT pledge is actually a really good way to run your employees off. Good luck getting anyone to sign off on all this, boss. You do know it’s a job seeker’s market, right?
