Sin City 2 Finally Goes Into Production

The moment you’ve been waiting for is here at last. The second installment of Sin City, the feature film adaptation of Frank Miller’s acclaimed noir graphic novels, is about to go into production. After announcing at Comic Con last year that the sequel was almost ready to go, and teasing that it could start shooting by the end of 2011, it appears things got delayed a little bit. The Departed writer William Monahan was brought on for rewrites on the film back in August, which will include A Dame to Kill For, one of Miller’s most popular Sin City stories, and some brand new material.

Dimension Films made the announcement yesterday that Sin City: A Dame to Kill For was finally ready to go ahead, although new information was scarce. No word yet on casting, release dates or the plots of the new installments. Instead, the statement, which you can read in full at Deadline, emphasized Frank Miller’s and Robert Rodriguez’s enthusiasm for the project.

Quoth Robert Rodriguez: “I have wanted to re-team with Frank Miller and return to the world he created since the day we wrapped the original, but have felt a duty to the fans to wait until we had something truly exceptional that would meet and exceed what have become epic expectations. A Dame To Kill For will certainly be worth the wait.”

Quoth Frank Miller: “Robert Rodriguez and I are going to shake things up and deliver a ferocious film experience that is going to go even further than the first.”

The real question for us is whether they’ll recast Clive Owen’s role in the first film, since A Dame to Kill For takes place before his character’s plastic surgery. Presumably we’ll start getting casting info very, very soon.

CraveOnline will be back with more Sin City: A Dame to Kill For news after a quick trip to Old Town.
