Rapper Chris Brown can’t seem to avoid controversy, specifically after pleading guilty to assaulting his former girlfriend Rihanna several years ago – after announcing a number of Canadian stops, many authorities have spoken out against having the musician perform here, including the mayor of Halifax.
Brown is also expected to appear in court next month following charges of a recent hit and run.
Brown was just announced as a headliner at the Hot Summer Blast Festival in Saint John, N.B., which is taking place on September 1st, and he also has shows coming up in Toronto, Winnipeg and Halifax. According to The Canadian Press, the mayor of Halifax has voiced his objections to Brown performing in the city, while companies pulled their sponsorship of the concert after learning he was the headliner. A woman in Winnipeg is also apparently holding a fundraiser for domestic violence in protest against the musician.
Brown, who released his sixth studio album “X” this year, was involved in a disagreement with Canadian musician Drake at a nightclub last year, and he had an altercation with American singer/songwriter Frank Ocean earlier this year.
