Brian Wilson: To Beard Or Not To Beard?

Brian Wilson was off the radar for quite some time due to injury, but now the 31-year-old relief pitcher has taken his talents 400 miles south and once again he’s back in the spotlight.

Baseball’s wild boy has always been outgoing and a little crazy both on and off the mound and for the last three seasons he’s been the closest thing Major League Baseball has had to Samson.  His lusciously full facial hair – and stellar pitching – won over hearts in San Francisco, with fans flocking to games wearing not only apparel but also fake beards.  But earlier this week – after being activated from the disabled list to hopefully join the Los Angeles Dodgers – he got quite the offer from one razor company.

According to RadarOnline.com, Wilson was offered $1 million by 800Razors.com to shave off his trademark beard.  The offer would mean that a simple razor to the face would pay him as much as the one-year contract he signed earlier this season with Los Angeles.  The seven-figure payoff would also mean that he’d become the official spokesperson for the company.

“We have been in discussions with his management to finalize the terms under which Brian would participate in a beard shaving promotion and endorsement,” the company’s Co-Founder and President Philip Masiello told Radar.  “His beard is iconic; we are in the quality razor industry and want to partner with other shaving icons to show how great our product is.  If it can tackle shaving a beard like his, it can work wonders on the average man.”

The pitcher is currently mulling it over, but losing the beard could kill his brand – not to mention his skills.  We all know what happened when Samson was shaved by Delilah, he lost all his power and strength and was basically rendered useless.  Coming off of two Tommy John surgeries over the last few seasons, the last thing the near fully-healthy pitcher needs is bad joojoo against him.
