Earlier this year, former “Doctor Who” star David Tennant won rave reviews for his performance as Detective Inspector Alec Hardy in ITV’s “Broadchurch.” The British original series recently wrapped up its North American run on BBC America.
While it’s unknown if Tennant will return to for the second season of “Broadchurch” in the U.K., Fox will reportedly feature Tennant as the male lead of its upcoming remake of “Broadchurch.” The setting will be transplanted to a small town in America that is rocked by the enigmatic death of a young boy whose body is found at the base of a cliff. Tennant will portray an American in the remake and his character’s name will probably be changed.
This will be Tennant’s first major role on U.S. television. Tennant previously starred in “Rex Is Not Your Lawyer,” an NBC pilot that did not get picked up.
The original “Broadchurch” was created by Chris Chibnall, who will write the first episode of the Fox remake. Dan Futterman and Anya Epstein will serve as the showrunners and executive producers of “Broadchurch;” which will begin filming in January 2014.
Fox’s “Broadchurch” miniseries will likely debut during the 2014-2015 TV season.
