If you think the dog eat dog competition of the Consumer Electronics Show ends when the doors of the Las Vegas Convention Center close each day, think again. The war between some of the industry’s most bitter combatants extends into the after-hours party scene as well.
We got our latest example of the — ahem — competitive spirit of CES when T-Mobile U.S. CEO John Legere got booted out of a party Monday night hosted by rival AT&T.
The bash for AT&T developers featured a performance by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis — and Legere later told media outlets that that was why he showed up.
Whether you believe that or just think Legere was trying to stick it to a rival, CNET News executive editor Roger Cheng tweeted a pic with Legere at the party — then reported 15 minutes later as the CEO was pointedly shown the door.
“Some security guards escorted him out. It was crazy,” Cheng wrote.
Never one to let an opportunity escape, the outspoken Legere quickly took to his own Twitter account to take some shots of his own at AT&T.
Think it’s a coincidence that the dust-up happened just hours before T-Mobile was expected to announce Uncarrier 4.0, a business strategy aimed at taking another chomp out of AT&T’s valuable — and much besieged — market share? Yeah, we didn’t either.
All’s fair in love and mobile supremacy, we say. Have fun, guys!
