I don’t doubt that Watch Dogs will be a great game, and I commend Ubisoft for delaying it to ensure the level of quality gamers expect. Even so, something about the project gives me a peculiar sense of foreboding. Harsh, I know, but the timing of the game’s delay right around the release of Grand Theft Auto V always rubbed me wrong — was Ubisoft Montreal’s vision for a next-gen sandbox truly that outclassed by a current-gen effort? It makes you wonder about the team’s foresight.
Recent comments about the game’s visuals on PC aren’t exactly helping, either. In an effort to praise Watch Dogs‘ visual prowess, creative director Jonathan Morin said the following when asked by a fan to compare the PC and console versions.
PC on very high setting is REALLY stunning if you ask me.
It sounds harmless enough… but is that really all there is to say when comparing two versions? Also, what’s with the qualifying “if you ask me?” Call me paranoid, but it’s making me nervous. Considering what developers have been able to squeeze out of PS3 in its last year, there’s no reason next-gen games shouldn’t nab the “stunning” label, even if PC will always have an edge.
Morin also revealed the minimum system requirements for the PC version of the game, which can be seen below. Unfortunately, the recommended requirements have not yet been published.
Official Watch Dogs Minimum PC System Requirements
- Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400 2.66Ghz or AMD Phenom II X4 940 3.0Ghz
- Memory: 6GB RAM
- Video card: 1024 VRAM DirectX 11 Shader 5.0
- Sound Card: DirectX9
- Hard drive: 25 GB
Watch Dogs is slated for a May 27th release on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC, so it won’t be too long before we know everything we need to. Of course, the Wii U version is yet to receive an official launch day. Here’s hoping it’s not canned at the last minute.
