Leave it to Disney to make a somewhat significant announcement about the most hotly-anticipated film in years on a shareholder conference call.
But that’s what happened Tuesday when Disney CEO Bob Iger officially announced that Star Wars: Episode VII starts shooting at London’s legendary Pinewood Studios in May — and that the film takes place 30 years after the events of Return of the Jedi.
In the story reported everywhere, including Crave movie site SuperHeroHype, Iger also teased J.J. Abrams’ movie would feature “some very familiar faces, as well as a trio of new young leads.”
Of course, we last saw Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford as Luke, Leia and Han back in 1983’s Jedi, which should make them perfectly age-appropriate for Episode VII‘s timeframe.
We’re still waiting on the names of those “new young leads,” but with May fast approaching, expect major casting announcements shortly, likely including “Girls” star Adam Driver as the villain.
If all goes according to plan (and expect the galaxy to spin off its axis if it doesn’t), Star Wars: Episode VII opens December 18, 2015.
