Series “Orphan Black” and “Scandal” were two of the recent Peabody Award winners, which were announced Wednesday.
Toronto’s sci-fi thriller “Orphan Black” was one of 46 honourees at the awards. “Scandal,” “House of Cards,” and “Frontline” were also amongst the winners. “Orphan Black” was described as “a super-charged, stylized sci-fi action serial that ponders identity, humanity, bioethics and genetic research when it occasionally stops for breath. Tatiana Maslany is a marvel in the title role” (The Associated Press).
The Peabody Awards, the oldest in electronic media, are considered among the most prestigious and selective prizes. The Peabodys recognize excellence and meritorious work by radio and television stations, networks, webcasters, producing organizations and individuals. The 16-member Peabody Board is a distinguished panel of television critics, industry practitioners and experts in culture and the arts. Selection is made by the Board following review by special screening committees of UGA faculty, students, and staff.
