With the end of “How I Met Your Mother” on CBS, the prevailing rumor was that Cobie Smulders would potentially revisit her role as Maria Hill on TV if “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” gets a second season. But it turns out that Smulders will be back much sooner than expected.
TVLine broke the story that Smulders is set to return to “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”
later this month as her character, Maria Hill adjusts to her new reality following the events of Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
SPOILERS AHEAD for “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” and Captain America: The Winter Soldier!
During the closing montage of The Winter Soldier, Smulder’s Maria Hill is seen at Tony Stark’s company as if she has left S.H.I.E.L.D. following the reveal that the organization had been infiltrated by Hydra for years.
Maria Hill will reportedly play a much larger role in her second appearance on “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” than she did in the pilot episode. A team up between Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) and Maria Hill is also supposedly on tap for the episode.
Smulders will guest star in the Tuesday, April 29 episode of “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” on ABC. Earlier this week, Samuel L. Jackson also revealed that he’ll be coming back to the show as Nick Fury at the end of the season.
