Cumberbatch in New Star Wars Trilogy? ‘Won’t Happen,’ Star Says

In addition to recent roles in the Star Trek and Hobbit franchises — not to mention a little BBC show called “Sherlock” — Cumberbatch is one of the most in-demand actors of the moment.  And apparently, all that work is filling his dance card too heavily to follow J.J. Abrams over to the Star Wars universe.

Speaking to Australian site The Iris — then further reported on Crave movie site ComingSoon — Cumberbatch dispelled recent scuttlebutt that he was a front-runner for a starring role in Abrams’ new Star Wars trilogy.

“I would’ve liked a part in JJ’s new Star Wars but it won’t happen sadly,” the actor said.

And for all those “Doctor Who” fans clamoring for a true in-continuity Doctor-Sherlock team-up, sorry…Cumberbatch shot down those rumors as well.  Such is the life of an actor whose career is blowing up…

Well, it was a nice thought while it lasted.
