Marc Webb Wants Kraven the Hunter in Amazing Spider-Man 3

With The Amazing Spider-Man 2 doing okay at the box office – not astronomically good, but pretty solid – folks are already wondering what’s in store for The Amazing Spider-Man 3. Will Marc Webb save The Sinister Six for their own spin-off movie? Will he introduce Venom before the blacksuited bad guy gets his own solo movie? The answer may be something that Sony (somehow) hasn’t already teased in the press releases: Kraven the Hunter.

Or Doctor Octopus, or The Vulture, or Mysterio. But probably Kraven the Hunter, if Marc Webb’s statement to ComicBook.com is any indication.

“Kraven,” Marc Webb replied, when asked which villains he was interested in for the third installment. “Kraven. I like the idea of Kraven. The Vulture. Ock. I always thought the idea of Mysterio was interesting. Maybe Scorpion. But really, Kraven I think is kind of interesting.”

The “idea of Kraven,” for those who don’t know or remember, is that he’s an obsessed big game hunter named Sergei Kravinoff who moves to the urban jungle in order to bag the most dangerous game: Spider-Man. Although created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, Kraven’s most famous story came in the form of Kraven’s Last Hunt, written by J.M. DeMatteis and pencilled by Mike Zeck, which found the supervillain shooting Spider-Man, burying him alive, and stealing the hero’s identity to prove himself superior. Kraven’s Last Hunt remains one of the darkest Spider-Man stories, and one of the most famous.

Although he’s usually considered one of Spider-Man’s greatest enemies, Kraven has never appeared in any of the live-action movies… so far. That may be about to change, unless Marc Webb goes with The Vulture, Doctor Octopus or Mysterio instead. Or hell, if The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is any indication, he may decide to throw all three villains in the same movie just for the heck of it.

The Amazing Spider-Man 3 is currently scheduled to sling its way into theaters in the summer of 2016.
