In the ‘60s, the Beatles were one of the biggest bands in rock & roll. And while the behind-the-scenes stories of the Beatles have rarely been adapted to film or television, NBC is gearing up for a new take on the fab four.
According to Deadline, NBC is developing an eight episode event series centered on the Beatles: John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr. While the project is still in the early stages of development, the script is being written by “The Tudors’ creator, Michael Hirst and executive produced by Hirst with Ben Silverman and Teri Weinberg, who both collaborated with Hirst on “The Tudors.”
Newly named Antman director, Peyton Reed has previously been attached to direct an adaptation of The Fifth Beatle, which focuses on the band’s manager, Brian Epstein. Other than that project, NBC’s Beatles miniseries may have the band’s story to itself at least in the near future.
The Beatles miniseries will potentially follow up on NBC’s success with its live production of The Sound of Music and the Rosemary’s Baby miniseries. However, there is no tentative date for the Beatles project to premiere on NBC or word on whether the miniseries will be allowed to use the music from the Beatles’ extensive catalogue of songs.
