You know your World Cup opener went well when your nation's vice-president stops by the locker room afterward to offer some congratulations.
And after the U.S. Team's thrilling 2-1 victory over Ghana Monday in their 2014 World Cup debut, vice president Joe Biden was not only in the stands in Natal, Brazil to cheer the team on, he stopped in with the squad after the game to shake hands and pat the boys on the back.
As this White House video posted to Crave sports site NESN shows, the vice president got some face time with some of Team USA's biggest stars, including Clint Dempsey, DaMarcus Beasley and goalkeeper Tim Howard.
We're not quite sure we buy the Veep's claims that his seatmate for the game, the vice president of Ghana, was actually cheering on the U.S. like he said, but to some pumped-up, ultra-focused U.S. players, it was probably music to their ears.
With group-play matches ahead against a bound-to-be-fired-up Portugal team as well as a juggernaut German squad, Monday's win may be the high point of America's trip to the 2014 World Cup. But even if it's all downhill from here, they'll always have a vice-presidential visit — not to mention, John Brooks' amazing header goal — to remember fondly.
