Back in 2006, Brandon Routh was cast in the title role of Superman Returns, Bryan Singer’s attempt to restart the Superman franchise. Eight years later, Routh will portray a much smaller DC superhero.
Deadline is reporting that Routh will play Ray Palmer on “Arrow” Season 3. Palmer is best known to DC Comics fans as the Atom, a superhero who can shrink and control his size at will. Palmer will be the new owner of Queen Consolidated.
Palmer will also be a new love interest for Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards) and Routh will appear in fourteen episodes of the third season.

Earlier “Arrow” rumors had Palmer’s role as Ted Kord, aka the Blue Beetle as a rival hero to Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell), which would have been a little easier to pull off since the Blue Beetle doesn’t have any superpowers. It’s currently unclear whether Palmer will have powers on “Arrow.”
Aside from Superman Returns, Routh has appeared in other comic book adaptations including Dylan Dog: Dead of Night, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World and the animated series, “The Batman.” Routh has also made numerous guest appearances on TV, including “Chuck,” “Will & Grace,” “Enlisted.” “The Millers” and a starring role in “Partners.”
“Arrow” Season 3 will premiere on Wednesday, October 8.
