Phil Hughes was knocked out at the SCG playing for the West End Redbacks vs. the NSW Blues in a Sheffield Shield match. Sean Abbott hit Hughes with a bouncer when the batsman was on 63.
After taking a swing at one of the numerous bouncers thrown down in the innings, Hughes missed and was collected after misjudging the height of the ball.
Hughes stumbled to the side of the pitch before falling face-first on the ground. He was stretchered off the field on a medicab with good mate and fellow Australian squad member David Warner by his side.
Hughes was driven to hospital, not requiring the helicopter that was flown onto the field. This was a good sign to the many nervous friends, family and fans watching on.
Both teams have released statements and are awaiting doctor assessments.
