Glenn Maxwell has hit the second fastest World Cup hundred off 51 balls at the SCG and the fastest by an Autralian. Maxwell almost equaled the fastest World Cup century, but he admitted honestly to missing the ball, given as a leg bye.
In a pool match against Sri Lanka, Maxwell came in at number 5 with Australia at 3/175. He was joined soon after by Shane Watson and the two set about demolishing Sri Lanka’s positive position.
In typically unpredictable fashion, Maxwell exercised his full book of shots hitting 10 fours and 4 sixes in his maiden World Cup century.
The unorthodox batsman has had a reasonable World Cup, but this total has eclipsed his previous World Cup best of 88.
