Perth Glory Under Investigation For Breaching Salary Cap

Perth Glory‘s 2015 season has been thrown into chaos, with allegations that the club has exceeded the A-League salary cap “by a significant amount.”

Football Federation Australia (FFA) have issued the Glory with a ‘show cause’ notice, and if found to have breached the cap could face heavy fines and the loss of A-League competition points.

This is the second show cause notice issue to the Glory by FFA in as many months, after the club failed to disclose benefits for players between 2012 and 2015.

In a statement, FFA said that this second notice comes after the Federation “continued to investigate the club’s Total Player Payments.”

“The investigation has included interviews with Perth Glory players and staff, retrieval of information from club files and forensic examination by external specialists of club records including financial accounts,” FFA said.

“The value of the undisclosed payments and benefits involved in the alleged breaches would place Perth Glory significantly in excess of the allowable salary cap of $2.55m.”

Glory chief executive Jason Brewer said that the club has cooperated fully with the FFA since the first show cause notice was issued.

“The club will continue to work with the FFA in an open and transparent manner until this issue is finalised,” he added.

Confirmation of the breach would be disastrous for Perth, who are currently well-placed to take part in this year’s A-League finals.

The Glory have until April 8 to respond to the show cause notice.

For now though, they say they are “firmly focused on the next match” against Newcastle on Monday.
