The Mandatory Guide to Goblin Mode

The pandemic changed a lot of us. Permanently. And not for the better. Too many months – nay, years! – of being cooped up in our homes, unable to socialize, and working remotely has taken its toll on our ability to function as normal, healthy human beings. Enter Goblin Mode.

What is Goblin Mode? Well, it’s basically hedonism, unhinged.

“Goblin mode is like when you wake up at 2am and shuffle into the kitchen wearing nothing but a long T-shirt to make a weird snack, like melted cheese on saltines,” Dave McNamee, a self-described “real-life goblin,” told The Guardian. “It’s about a complete lack of aesthetic. Because why would a goblin care what they look like? Why would a goblin care about presentation?”

The term gained traction recently after a fake headline that attributed the term to Kanye West’s ex, Julia Fox, went viral. “Julia Fox opened up about her ‘difficult’ relationship with Kanye West ‘He didn’t like when I went goblin mode,'” read the altered headline of an article on Bollywood news site Pinkvilla.

Fox denied ever using that term. Still, we can imagine all that Goblin Mode entails, and we’ve gathered all that info up into a handy-dandy guide that you can use as we slog along in what may or may not be the third year of the pandemic (depending on your perspective).

Go on with your goblin self.
